Emily and Lee’s wedding in Derby started at St Edmund’s Church in Allenton before moving on to celebrations at Derby’s Victory Club. It was a proper local wedding, full of family, friends and the kind of moments that make documentary wedding photography so enjoyable.
The ceremony at St Edmund’s Church had a lovely atmosphere. Church weddings often bring a sense of tradition to the day, but what I enjoy most are the little human moments around it. Guests arriving and spotting people they know, the nerves before the ceremony, the reactions as the bride walks in and the smiles once the vows have been said.
After the ceremony, there was time for photos around the church before everyone headed over towards Shelton Lock and Derby’s Victory Club for the reception. As a wedding photographer in Derby, days like this are a good reminder that a wedding does not need to be in a grand country house to be full of character. The people are what make it.
Emily and Lee’s day had a very real, relaxed feel. There were natural moments everywhere, from guests chatting outside to people laughing over drinks and children weaving between the adults. I kept the photography simple and focused on telling the story of the day without taking over.
We still made time for a few group photos and some portraits of Emily and Lee, but these were kept easy and natural. Most couples do not want to disappear for ages on their wedding day, and I completely understand that. A few minutes away from the party is usually enough to get lovely, relaxed photos without making it feel like a staged shoot.
Emily and Lee’s Derby wedding was warm, genuine and full of the people who matter most to them. A lovely local wedding captured naturally from church through to the evening celebrations.
