Jenny & Peter – The Stanwick Hotel

Date – 16th May 2026
Location – The Stanwick Hotel, Northamptonshire

Jenny and Pete’s wedding at The Stanwick Hotel was one of those days that felt relaxed from the start. No fuss, no awkwardness, just two people enjoying the day they had planned with the people closest to them.

The Stanwick Hotel is tucked away in the Northamptonshire village of Stanwick, with courtyards, gardens and quiet corners for photographs. It works well for a wedding because everything is close together, but it still gives you variety. You have the rooms for the morning, the ceremony space, the gardens, the bar, the reception room and the evening party all within easy reach. For a photographer, that makes the day flow nicely without pulling the couple away from their guests for too long.

The morning had a calm feel to it. Jenny was getting ready with the usual mix of nerves, laughter and last minute details. These are often some of my favourite parts of a wedding day to photograph. Not because anything dramatic needs to happen, but because the small moments say a lot. A hand fastening a dress. Someone checking the time. Flowers being placed down for five seconds before being picked up again. The little pause before leaving for the ceremony.

Pete’s morning had its own pace. Guests arrived, buttonholes were adjusted, and there was that familiar pre-ceremony energy where everyone is chatting but also keeping half an eye on the door. He looked ready, but you could still see how much the moment meant to him.

The ceremony was full of the kind of expressions I like to look for. Jenny walking in, Pete’s reaction, the smiles from family, and the glances between them during the vows. These are the photographs that matter years later because they are not staged or forced. They are simply what happened.

After the ceremony, everyone spilled out into the hotel grounds for drinks, hugs and congratulations. The Stanwick Hotel’s gardens gave us a great setting for the group photographs without making it feel like a huge production. I always try to keep this part of the day simple. Get the important family photos done properly, keep people relaxed, and then let everyone get back to enjoying themselves.

For Jenny and Pete’s couple portraits, we kept things natural. A short walk, a bit of time away from the crowd, and no over-posing. The courtyards and garden areas at The Stanwick Hotel worked well for this, giving us a mix of greenery, brickwork and softer backgrounds. They did not need anything overly set up. They just needed a few minutes together.

One of the best things about their day was how easy it felt. Some weddings are packed so tightly that the couple barely gets chance to speak to anyone. This one had room to breathe. Guests had time to talk, have a drink, enjoy the setting and settle into the day. That makes a big difference in the photographs, because people stop thinking about the camera and just get on with enjoying themselves.

The reception had the same feel. Good food, proper conversation, and a room full of people who were clearly happy to be there. The speeches brought a mix of laughter and a few emotional moments, which is exactly what you want. Nothing felt overdone. It was personal, honest and very much about Jenny and Pete.

As the light changed later in the day, we made the most of the last bit of outdoor time. I always like to look for a few quieter frames at this point. The main events of the day have happened, the pressure has lifted, and couples often seem more settled. Jenny and Pete were no different. Those later portraits had a softer feel, and they added something different to the gallery.

The evening was all about the party. Once the first dance started, the dancefloor filled and the day moved into a completely different gear. These photos are always less polished, but that is the point. Movement, laughter, dodgy dance moves, people singing along and everyone forgetting there is a camera nearby. It is a great way to end a wedding gallery because it shows the day as it really was.

Jenny and Pete’s wedding at The Stanwick Hotel was a proper Northamptonshire wedding. Relaxed, warm, full of family and friends, and set in a venue that gave them everything in one place. From the morning preparations through to the evening reception, the whole day had a lovely rhythm to it.

For me, weddings like this are exactly why I enjoy photographing them. It is not about turning the day into a photoshoot. It is about noticing what is happening, giving a bit of direction when it helps, and letting the rest unfold naturally.

Jenny and Pete, thank you for having me along to photograph your wedding. It was a pleasure to be part of it and to capture such a genuine, happy day at The Stanwick Hotel.
